Is it finish of hiking season?

I would like to write some summary of hiking season because we started skiing season and it's after Christmas, it should be middle of winter but actually it's NOT. I have impression that spring is coming. Anyhow I'll make a summary of hiking season and few words about it.
I "started" a hiking or tried to went up few years ago with my friend Andrzej z Jaroslawia during the trip to Polish Tatry mountains on motorcycles. It was Sokolica 747 meters above sea level and few mountains in Beskidy and Tatry mountains. It was fun but I didn't find it funny and it didn't give me a pleasure because we completely didn't know anything about it. So we wanted to run on the top and generally it doesn't work. It's funny but it's definitely easier and faster to walk systematically, slowly, without many stopovers but to the target. We didn't have a water but instead of this we had more not important stuff. You don't need to much things to have fun but without some of important it's quite hard to find it's fun. Less stuff more fun! The most important things is comfortable heavy duty boots, good backpack, nice thing is camel bag but plastic bottle is also fine. When it's hot use sun hat, shorts, suncream, sunglasses. When it's cold, windy and rainy weather use jacket, warm cloths, somethings gloves if you have problems with cold hands. Generally it's good idea to use multilayer cloths, breathable trousers with removable parts of legs e.g. from normal one you can have shorts without changing them. Also good is to use poles, especially when you going down... don't mix with Poles (Canadian joke: Do you know the trick how to differentiate them? Put a bottle of vodka, and check who is drawling).

Don't forget that eating is part of useful thing and it's something more than just eating. It's growing up to the point of cult. Usually you do it when you are tired, hungry, you want to take a rest and... you are on the top! Nice view, nature, nice people. You don't need to much.

During my contract at CERN I decided or people forced me to hike to Le Reculet during winter. After that I hated it. On may holiday bank I decided, anyone forced me, to go hiking to Parc du Mercantour. Probably I wanted to impress myself and I still don't know how did I do it! 4 days of hiking. After that I hated it more than ever...! But more and more I started to like it.

Let's have a look for photos from that part of my life:

Jura on the moto

Two improvised days in the Jura mountains in France. Small trip group, nature and coolness. Average trip speed ~ 20km/h, average ride speed 60km/h. Calmly and slowly... I've never used to do it. Always hurry and in the rush! Not bad, not bad to be cool!
The best camping in west Europe, for free, with big swimming pool, cave and waterfall!

Green or blue?

"Quelle couleur avez-vous ? Vert ou bleu". I really wanted to see crazy-happy supporters of winner's team of 2006th Football World Cup. It's easy... "Forza Itala"! Where is the closest Italian city? Aosta! Just pass the Mount Blanc tunnel. It's quite expensive, so I connected pleasure and duty. Alps and final football match.

The most important things from this trip:
-Annecy-Swiss Alps-Col de St. Bernard
-Aosta
-Italian coffee
-Polish students on the bikes in Italian Alps
-Crazy-happy Italian
-Crazy-sad French
-Full moon
-The biggest and the most sadness hole in the Alps (Mc. Banc Tunnel)
-Honky Italian Trucks on the highway A40 after FR-ITL match from ITL to FR

Cold Jura, hot heart!

Next time on the Saturday (the 8th of July 2006) I didn't have any plans. So, I followed for the advices of my Portuguese's co-worker (from Poglish: cow-workers) advices. At first Divone, nice, calm Village near to my place. Than, I realised that I still have more than a half day. Not so far and really great must be Jura mountains. It was good plan, Jura is incredibely. You can't compare it with Alps, because it is different kind of mountains. Lower, more calm, not so naked and not so hardnosed. Maybe that's why so nice. I didn't count on my funny luck to met someone, because I gave it for my friend to finish study but I meet really helpfully person, also on the motorcycle, half French and Moroccan, Abdel. Now I know more about Jura and Morocco (cheap ferries FR-MOR: www.euromer.fr), temperature in Jura is much lower than in the rest of France and I can even felt on my skin (in the winter until -30C!!!)

Conclusion: It's god to have a GPS!

CERN - LHC

This Wednesday (the 5th of July) was one of the biggest days in my short life. My small dream came true! I always wanted to see LHC. Now, when I work here it was much closer, but still so far away. If you want to go down to the LHC you need a lot of accesses, permissions and authorisations. Luckily I made all formalities I needed and see what I wanted. But I'm still looking forward to see more interesting places at CERN! Till now I've been to Point 4, 5, 8 and the CMS experiment. If you wanted to know more about LHC, the biggest project at CERN, visit this web site and find somethings via GOOGLE!

Here you can see more photos from my short trip!

Weekend's trips

On the last Saturday (the 1st of July) in the morning I realized that it's a weekend. I phoned all my friends and colleagues and... I went alone somewhere. I always wanted to go Cote d'Azure and Provance in the south of France. So, the dreams come true. Two days in the mountains, only me, a wild nature, my Africa Twin and all the stuff I need for camping-hiking. Just from the beginning it was quite stupid because I had good map of French Alps... but not this area where I wanted to go, I had GPS with good map of France... but not this area where I wanted to go and without auto routing. In big shortcut it was without any plans and without any preparations. I really don't like it! The plan was to go from Geneva (CH) throught Grenoble (FR), Sisteron (FR), Marseille (FR), Toulon (FR), San Tropez (FR), Cannes (FR), Nice (FR), Monte Carlo (MC) and go back to Geneva. It's about 1000km in two days. On the map on the left you have: the red line - what I made, the green - what I also wanted to do. Normally, I can easily make 500km... So, question why I didn't do it? Flat tire! I had almost everything I needed to travel but I didn't have tools to repair the flat tire or assistance. Few advices: if you want to travel in west Europe without any surprises you need only money and assistance. Because if it's weekend in the France it's impossible to find someone to help you. Or next solution: you need all the tools to repair something and automatically to be independent and you also need to have the head on the neck and... good luck! So, I think I'll need only tools...
